Ingredients for sauce:

For beef and veggies:

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl mix together the following ingredients for the sauce: cornstarch, oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and chicken broth (see notes for substitutes). Set aside.

  2. Season your beef strips with oyster sauce, dark soy sauce, sesame oil, black pepper, shaoxing cooking wine (see notes for substitutions), and cornstarch. Mix well and set aside for a few minutes or overnight if you are preparing this in advance.

  3. Heat a pan over medium high heat and add in the oil. Once the oil is hot add in the seasoned beef. I like to allow It to cook on one side for 1-2 minutes before flipping/mixing. Cook the beef for a total of approximately 3 minutes.

  4. Add in the minced garlic and ginger. Stir and cook for 30 seconds.

  5. Add in the pieces of broccoli, stir, and cook with lid on your pot for 1-2 minutes so the broccoli can steam. Please do not cook your broccoli too long or it will turn to mush. I like my broccoli crunchy which is why I cut the pieces large and cook them for only a few minutes.

  6. Remove the lid and add in the previously prepared sauce and onions. Allow it to bubble until thick and coats all the meat and veggies. This will only take about 20-30 seconds.

  7. Finish with some optional chilies for heat, and sesame seeds for decoration. Enjoy!

Note

Chicken broth: if you don’t have chicken broth mix together 1 1/2 too chicken powder with 3/4 cup warm water.

Shaoxing cooking wine substitutes: a great substitute for shaoxing cooking wine is dry sherry or you can use 1 tsp of white vinegar mixed with 2 tsp of water.
